Under the Compliance Code - First Aid in the Workplace (Sept 2008), WorkSafe Victoria advises that HLTFA301A - Apply First Aid (Level 2) is the recognised minimum first aid training accreditation requirement for all Victorian workplaces.
This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to provide first aid response, life support, management of casualty(s), the incident and other first aiders, until the arrival of medical or other assistance. The course is Nationally Recognised and is aligned to the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF)
These skills and knowledge may be applied in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings Training Package users should ensure implementation is consistent with any specific workplace and/or relevant legislative requirements in relation to first aid, including State/Territory requirements for currency. Application of these skills and knowledge should be adapted as required to address specific industry, enterprise or workplace requirements and to address specific risks, hazards and associated injuries.
Being a flexible delivery course students are sent study kits, need to complete an assignment and are required to attend a one day practical training and assessment class.
Certification
Participants who successfully complete the course will be awarded Swinburne University of Technology nationally accredited certification. This course is valid for 3 years however CPR refresher training must be undertaken annually for this qualification to remain current.

- Set course fee for groups of up to 5 participants is $825.00, add $121.00 per person for participant numbers >5
- Set course fee for groups of up to 10 participants is $1320.00, add $121.00 per person for participant numbers >10
Study Method and Duration
Participants are forwarded Study Guide (assignment) and Workplace First Aid Level 2 Text package and are expected to:
- Work through the Study Guide (assignment) and the text
- Complete the guide questions and the Competency Assessment prior to attendance at the one day practical training and assessment class
- Submit the Assignments and Competency Assessment for evaluation
- Attend an one day practical training and assessment class

There are no pre-requisites for this unit. This unit incorporates the following two units:

- HLTFA201A Provide basic emergency life support
